About

Drawing from his background growing up in Greenwich Village, NY, during the 70s, Trace Ellis writes music that has its roots in folk. However, his approach is alternative, incorporating elements of punk and country in songs that often speak to the prominent social issues of our time.
While committed to challenging us to have conversations about issues such as police brutality, climate change and LGBTQ + realities, he is equally intrigued by the personal journeys that we experience as human beings. He draws from his own struggles with addiction, and his eventual recovery from alcoholism, emphasizing the spiritual breakthrough that changed his life.
While Trace is classically trained , he prefers to dig down to the roots of his creative process, which often begins with improvisation. Driving rhythms lead the way, followed by his ability to craft melodies that culminate in soaring choruses.
“ I want to write music that people wish to play over and over. I want the music to stand on its own, but also want there to be a message that resonates with my listeners. Music is the great communicator; it’s my job to deliver the emotion. “
